Join us as we welcome Mark Gorton and Mark Caserta in a conversation about public space. Mr. Caserta will share his experience running two years of Open Streets as the Park Slope Fifth Avenue BID. Mr. Gorton will present a series of policy and organizational proposals to add a public space management capacity to the New York City government. With a core of professional public space managers and a policy framework to empower the citizens of New York to develop their streets as public spaces, New York City has the opportunity to bring to life thousands of streets around the city.

Mr. Gorton is the founder and Chairman of Tower Research Capital LLC, one of the leading computerized trading firms in the world. He was also the founder and CEO of the file sharing company, LimeWire. Mr. Gorton is an advocate for livable streets, alternative transportation and open government as the founder and chairman of OpenPlans, a non-profit devoted to the pursuit of smart planning and civic engagement through media and advocacy.

Mark Caserta is the Executive Director at Park Slope Fifth Avenue Business Improvement District. Mr. Caserta manages a 30-block, 1 1/12 mile long commercial district in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Mr. Caserta runs a $500,000 non-profit with a board of 20 merchants, property owners and elected officials and serves more than 500+ merchants, 400 landlords and 50,000 nearby residents.

We welcome those who live in NYC and anyone who is interested in discussing the important topic of public space.
