Every Saturday we close blocks to traffic on #theother5th!
We started closing the blocks to traffic every Saturday from March 13th and will continue through the year as long as we have funding to proceed. We do not receive any funds for the City to do this, so in order to have a crew to open and close the blocks and keep you safe for play, dining and shopping we are hoping to raise $50,000 from the community, restaurants and sponsors. The community have been so generous so far. If you can help please click below.
Funds pay a crew of 8 to open and close the blocks and patrol the streets to ensure barricades remain closed for your safety, and sort any issues like blocked side streets and emergency service access. We also have issues like un-permitted DJs causing extensive gathering, burst water mains and protests where we need to have staff ready to respond.
WHEN Saturdays 11am to 10pm
WHERE We are starting with the blocks below and adding more in April when we are allowed to extend our permit.
Dean to Park
Sterling to Berkeley
President to 5th (4th-5th is partially open)
10th to 13th
15th-16th
In April/May we hope to add more in center slope and south slope and if we raise enough funds we can also add Sundays in July and August.
